Analysis of 8,515 agency listings reveals how minimum engagement budgets vary across 15 marketing services.
Branding is the only service where the 25th-percentile minimum budget starts at $2,000, making it the most expensive entry point across all 15 services analyzed.
Minimum engagement budgets signal how agencies price their services and what clients should expect to spend just to get started. This study draws on 8,515 agency listings across 15 marketing services to map out those thresholds. The data shows a clear divide between lower-barrier services like SEO and email marketing and higher-commitment services like branding, web design, and media buying.
SEO and PPC Management are the two largest service categories by agency count, with 1,924 and 1,016 listings respectively, and both share a median minimum budget of $1,000. Email Marketing, with 305 listings, also sits at a $1,000 median.
For all three services, the 25th percentile is also $1,000, meaning at least a quarter of agencies offering these services accept engagements starting at that floor. The 75th percentile for SEO and PPC rises to $5,000, and for Email Marketing it also reaches $5,000, indicating that higher-tier agencies in these categories do charge significantly more.
The concentration of agencies at the $1,000 median reflects how commoditized these channels have become, particularly for smaller or more standardized scopes of work.
A large cluster of services lands at a $5,000 median minimum budget. These include Social Media Marketing (928 listings), Content Marketing (564), Digital Strategy (515), Web Development (470), Advertising (403), Branding (395), Marketing Strategy (319), Media Buying (294), Conversion Optimization (251), Graphic Design (193), and UX/UI Design (189).
Within this group, the 25th percentile varies. For most services, including Social Media Marketing, Content Marketing, and Conversion Optimization, the p25 sits at $1,000. However, Branding stands apart: its 25th percentile is $2,000, the highest p25 of any service in the dataset.
The 75th percentile also splits this group. Services such as Web Design (749 listings), Digital Strategy, Web Development, Advertising, Branding, Marketing Strategy, Media Buying, Graphic Design, and UX/UI Design all reach $10,000 at the 75th percentile, while Social Media Marketing, Content Marketing, and Conversion Optimization top out at $5,000 at p75.
Branding is the single service with a 25th-percentile minimum of $2,000, distinguishing it from every other service in this dataset. Combined with a $5,000 median and a $10,000 75th percentile, branding commands the widest and highest price distribution at the lower end of the market.
This likely reflects the strategic and creative depth involved in brand identity work, which typically requires more upfront discovery, positioning, and design effort than an ongoing channel-management service. With 395 listings, the sample is meaningful, though smaller than the top categories.
For services where both p25 and p75 equal $5,000, such as Social Media Marketing and Content Marketing, the middle 50 percent of agencies cluster tightly around a single price point. Buyers can expect relatively consistent minimums across mid-market providers in those categories.
For services where p25 is $1,000 and p75 is $10,000, such as Web Design, Digital Strategy, Web Development, Advertising, Marketing Strategy, Media Buying, Graphic Design, and UX/UI Design, the spread is wide. A client shopping in these categories could encounter agencies with minimums ten times higher than others, depending on specialization, size, and scope.
PPC Management and SEO show a p25 to p75 range of $1,000 to $5,000, offering the narrowest spread in the dataset, which points to a more price-competitive and volume-driven market segment.
